Podcast 298 – Dunwoody’s New Family Fun Destination - Big Play ATL - Valerie Inglesby
Dunwoody is getting a game-changer with Big Play ATL. Opening this fall at Mount Vernon Road and Dunwoody Club Drive, this massive indoor entertainment hub packs bowling, laser tag, mini golf, VR, and arcade games. It is all tied together with a full restaurant and bar serving fresh salads, salmon and craft cocktails while the kids have a blast.
The location is a win. It is one of the rare spots you can actually walk to in the suburbs. Big Play ATL is not just moving in. They are planting roots by upgrading the parking lot, teaming up with local groups and serving as a platinum sponsor for the Dunwoody Fourth of July Parade.
Birthday parties, date nights, alumni watch parties or catching a game with friends — you do not need kids to enjoy the fun. This is the kind of local hangout Dunwoody has been waiting for.
They are hoping to open sometime after Labor Day.

Podcast 297 – A New Era Begins for Wildcat Football – Coach Matt Schmitz
Wildcat Football has a new leader, and Coach Matt Schmitz is ready to take the program to the next level. With more than 20 years of experience, he’s stepping into the head coach role at Dunwoody High with big plans. He’s building on Coach Mike Nash’s legacy while bringing his own energy and approach. He’s not just coaching a team. He’s shaping a system. From Junior Wildcats to varsity, every level now works together with the same goals, language, and support.
The Corky Kell Classic at Mercedes-Benz kicks off the season, but the real wins come from the day-to-day work. That means better nutrition, smarter scheduling, academic support, and a culture that helps every player grow. Backed by the Gridiron Club and our Dunwoody community, Wildcat Football is locked in for 2025. This one is about more than just football.

Podcast 296 – How Dunwoody Has Attracted 44 Restaurants In the Last 3 Years – Mark Galvin with Discover Dunwoody
Dunwoody isn’t just growing. It’s booming with flavor. In just three years, 44 new restaurants have opened across the city, and they’re not your average fast-food joints. These are chef-driven kitchens, local favorites, and unique dining spots choosing Dunwoody for a reason. Mark Galvin from Discover Dunwoody explains how new developments like Ashford Lane, High Street, Campus 244, Perimeter Marketplace, and the newly refreshed Park Place are all scoring big names and redefining what’s possible in the suburbs.
The wild part? Many restaurants aren’t replacing old ones. They’re launching in brand-new buildouts. That’s a sign of serious momentum.
From Velvet Taco and Grana to Nando’s, Cuddlefish, Hampton Social, and CT Cantina, Dunwoody’s dining scene is more diverse and more delicious than ever. Mark shares how his team markets the city, why locals should ride the trolley, and what’s coming next.

Podcast 295 – A Proactive Approach to Long-Term Family Wellness – Wilson Family Chiropractic
Wilson Family Chiropractic has been helping Dunwoody families feel, move, and live better for over 15 years. From prenatal care and sports injuries to that nagging desk-job back pain, their focus is long-term wellness through high-tech tools like laser therapy, shockwave, and digital x-rays. It’s not just about relief. It’s about keeping your body working the way it should, before pain even starts.
After recording this episode, I booked a visit to get my elbow checked out and tried shockwave therapy for the first time. It turned out to be one of the most effective treatments I’ve ever had for tennis elbow. They also took x-rays of my spine, something I’d never done before, and it opened my eyes to how much spinal health connects to everything else. I’m not in pain now, but I want to stay that way. These two visits completely changed how I think about chiropractic care.

Podcast 294 – The Ashford Lane Bar That Celebrates the Bad Boys of Sports – Mara Mullen – Streakers
Dunwoody has never seen a sports bar like this. Streakers at Politan Row leans into the wild side of sports, with wall-to-wall scandals, jello shots in syringes, and cocktails named after the most notorious names in the game. It’s fun, bold, and completely different from anything else around.
It’s also the only bar at Politan Row with TVs, so you can catch every big play without leaving your seat. Even better, you can order food from any vendor in the hall right to your table. No lines, no missing the moment, just good eats and wild drinks.
Mara Mullen leads the bar program here and at two more Politan Row favorites. Bar Politan offers quick, classic cocktails right when you walk in. Okay Anny’s is the neon-lit lounge in the back, full of ‘90s nostalgia and DJ energy. Together, they’ve turned Ashford Lane into Dunwoody’s new late-night scene.

Podcast 293 – Moondog Grows From Dunwoody Growlers to Chamblee Dog Friendly Pub – Tommy Burda
Moondog Growlers holds a special place in my heart. It was the first on-location interview Justin and I ever recorded back in the early podcast days. Fast forward to today and owners Tommy and Felicia Burda have spread that same welcoming Dunwoody vibe to Chamblee with Moondog Pub & Grub. Tommy swore he would never open a restaurant, but then he spotted the perfect building behind Whole Foods along the Rail Trail. Now Moondog Pub & Grub is serving up Wisconsin cheese curds, prime rib Saturdays, and a brunch that makes you want to linger all afternoon. The place feels like an extension of the neighborhood, with dogs napping on the patio, friends catching up over bourbon flights, families dropping by on a bike ride, and live music from local favorites like the Mike Veal Band and The Gregory Marshall Roth Band filling the room most nights. It is everything locals love about Moondog Growlers, just with a full kitchen and even more space to kick back and feel at home.

Podcast 292 – How a Podcast and a Couple Facebook Groups Built a Digital Community in Dunwoody – Matt Weber
Julia Frament from @mrandmrsdunwoody asked to interview me for the podcast this week, so this episode is going to give you even more Matt than usual. It was fun reminiscing on the early days of What’s Up Dunwoody in 2018.
Seven years ago, we launched a podcast nobody listened to, and I started a couple of Facebook groups where I was the only one posting. They weren't an overnight success, but we (along with podcast co-host Justin Dike) stuck with it. Eventually people started tuning into the pod. The Facebook groups took even longer to catch on, but little by little, the community started showing up and making them their own. They aren't my groups anymore. Now they belong to the Dunwoody Area Community.
After nearly 300 podcast episodes and over 25,000 community group members, it’s wild to see what the brand has become. What’s Up Dunwoody started as a way for me to get to know the city, and somewhere along the way, it turned into something FOR the city.
What’s next for What’s Up Dunwoody? Staying ahead of the curve and doubling down on what’s next. I’m working on new ways to bring value to the community, including Custom GPTs built for locals, an AI mascot named Woody the Goldendoodle, lots of collaborations, and maybe even a newsletter that doesn’t suck. Thanks to everyone who’s been part of the story so far!

Podcast 291 – Discover Dunwoody’s Website Makeover and Club World Cup Comes to Atlanta – Mark Galvin
Dunwoody just got a digital upgrade. Mark Galvin from Discover Dunwoody joins to show off their new website, designed to make finding events, booking hotels, and exploring the city way easier. It’s brighter, faster, and loaded with fresh content including blogs, local guides, and a search tool that actually works.
Mark breaks down how hotel taxes fund the whole thing and why that matters for both residents and visitors. Plus, he talks about Dunwoody’s growing social media game, fueled by a young, creative team putting local spots in the spotlight.
This Sunday, June 23, Dunwoody hosts “Viva la Copa” at Ashford Lane from noon to 11 p.m. It’s a free event with Club World Cup matches on the big screen, live music, food vendors, games, and local soccer guests. Discover Dunwoody and Passion Soccer Academy are teaming up to support Hispanic youth through soccer programs and tourism. It’s the kind of event that brings the whole community together.

Podcast 290 – Leadership Perimeter Sparks a Journey to Dunwoody City Hall – Catherine Lautenbacher
Catherine Lautenbacher never saw herself running for office. But after years of leading the Leadership Perimeter program, she found herself pulled into public service. Now representing District 1 on Dunwoody City Council, Catherine focuses on community safety, connectivity, and building up future leaders.
She shares what she has experienced over the last four years and reflects on the moments that stood out during her time on the council. Public safety is at the top of that list. Catherine explains how Dunwoody police are using drones to respond more quickly and assess situations from above before officers even arrive. The city has also built a high-tech command center with live video feeds that help manage emergencies, traffic, and major events like the Fourth of July parade. It’s about being proactive, not just reactive, and she’s proud to see Dunwoody leading the way.
She also continues to mentor the next generation through Leadership Perimeter and remains a strong advocate for making Dunwoody more walkable, one sidewalk at a time.
